So the thread for the new Incredible Hulk trailer got me thinking.  Many of you are comic book fans, whether devout readers or fans of the many films spawned from comics.  I figure there should be enough of us to have a pretty good discussion about comics.  Anything in particular anyone wants to talk about?  DC is just getting into Final Crisis mode, Spider-man's editor hit a giant reset button, there's a new Hellboy mini coming out soon, Futurama's back in comic form, and there's so much going on in the various comic universes that I can't stretch my greasy hands out to grab onto enough plot-lines.

So, anything anyone wants to talk about?

Oh, and for anyone who isn't really a comics fan, here are a couple recommendations: Hellboy, Y: The Last Man, and Watchmen.  If those don't turn you on, your dick (or vag) is dead already.

Forgive me, I'm an old man who only started posting again this week after a month or two hiatus.  I never seem to catch them when they're around.

should i read 52 and countdown? i was unimpressed by infinite crisis, but i loved identity crisis.

this seems like the most bloated crossover ever and it's lasted like 3 years at this point.

what will i have to read to understand grant morrison's arc?

EDIT:: also, fuck secret invasion.  i hate the skrull, and i loved black bolt.  best character in earth x.

recently, i've been reading all the great mignola stuff, including MONTHLY bprd and the ape sapien and lobster johnson and HELLBOY books.  all been gold.

also, i just started reading morrison's run on batman.  i only have back to issue 666, so i'm missing a lot of info though i like what i've read so far.

the new madman monthly has been absolutely stellar, as well. i can't get enough allred.  i just bought the gargantua TPB and the atomics collection, much easier than trying to hunt down all the issues.

i'm pissed they basically forced darwyn cooke off the spirit, those were an awesome 12 issues, but i'm glad he did a follow up to new frontier, those stories turned out really well.  and the animated movie, oh boy!

i also jsut decided to start picking up ultimate x-men, because i like the way salvador larocca's art has shaped up, i hated it when he was drawing the reg. x-men book a couple years back.

also, was messiah complex any good?  the only x-book i've been reading was  astonishing, and wow i can't wait for the annual.

52: How it related in the crossovers were not very well structured.... However, as a self contained series, it was excellent. Seeing Black Adam, Steel, Booster God, Elogonated Man, Animal man, Starfire etc (B-Rate heroes) stand out was great....

Grant Morrisons Arc? You can jump in cold... But I recommend   Animal Man trades from very early Vertigo..

As for Countdown? It seems fairly weak to me. I have been reading only a little bit at a time on newsstands... Frankly, I find myself  not caring two shits about it. Jimmy Olson as a bad ass super hero? Whatever.

I recently read Wanted and Superman: Red Son. Both were very, very tasty. I think I'm starting to become a Millar fan. I'm also totally disappointed with the Wanted movie.

yep, first trade is out. definitely check it out!!

i'm glad you've heard other recommendations for it too, i'm not sure what its sales rank is but i'm so worried about it getting cancelled - so many of my favorite books do it seems (manhunter [sort of - got a last minute reprieve but ended anyway?? i'm not sure what's up with manhunter], young justice, rucka's wonder woman, batgirl, flash [vol 2 with wally west - although not for lack of sales as far as i know], gotham central [again, not for lack of sales although its sales were always pretty low, brubaker and lark just went exclusive to marvel - btw fuck exclusive contracts], ahhhh the list goes on)

Read up to book 3 of this, haven't gotten around to asking George (the owner of the comic book show I go to) to ordering the other 5 books.

manhunter [sort of - got a last minute reprieve but ended anyway?? i'm not sure what's up with manhunter]

as it turns out manhunter's returning in june, with pencils by (omg) michael gaydos!!! holy crap i love that dude and i love this comic and i can't waaaaaitttt

michael gaydos did the really awesome super great art for brian michael bendis' alias, one of my favorite series of all time.

no truly i am positively giddy with this news. i love jesus saiz's pencils too but i think gaydos is perfect for this book. if you weren't reading manhunter before (which you probably weren't) you should read it now. it's one of those books that just keeps getting better.
