I got a Wii for Christmas, and I'm super-excited to pick out some games for it! On my list right now are Rock Band, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy (which one is better, the sequel or the original?), either the original Raving Rabbids or Raving Rabbids Travel in Time (again, which one's better?), No More Heroes (or maybe the sequel, one more time, which is better?), Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Okami. Please help me narrow it down, or suggest other games I haven't listed here. Also, where's the best play to get games? I was going to hit Toys are Us, since they're having a "Buy One, Get One Half Off" sale on video games this week, but it occurs to me that maybe there's someplace the gamers go that has great deals.
I haven't been this excited since I got a Sega Dreamcast! Yay!

Alright, first to know about the wii is that it's hackable as SHIT. You can literally play any nintendo video game on it with some effort. The wii my friend has I helped mod has every SNES rom on it at all times. We also DL every Wii game we want to play, running the ISO off of a flash drive.
That said, my favorite Wii games are (in no order): Donkey Kong Country Returns Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 Mario Party 8 Kirby's Epic Yarn Zelda Twilight Princess Jame Bond: Goldeneye Mario Kart Wii No More Heroes Super Smash Brothers Brawl The New Super Mario Bros Wii Sports Resort (If you can afford the Wii Motion Plus)

No More Heroes is definitely an excellent choice for Wii, other than that I usually just play older games on the virtual console.

I <3 you Nicola!! ^_^
As far as the Wii games, it depends on if you're going for party games or games you can play on your own. I have always heard very good things about ExciteTruck, and it was most definitely overlooked. A fine racing game.
I also heard remarkable things about Super Paper Mario. In fact, if I may suggest, the Gamecube game Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door is excellent. One of the best adventure games I have ever played. It's cute, stylish, fun, exciting, and ridiculously clever. And since Wii plays GC games, and it is probably a best-seller, you should be able to get it for under $20.
If you're a fan of the original NiGHTS, then Journey into Dreams is pretty good. I hear it is not as lush and deep, and that it's more linear, but a colorful adventurous romp still.
Folks also seem to love Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. As well as Red Steel, but I have not played it myself. And even though it is short, and could use more content, Punch Out!! is a good time.
Have fun!! ^_^

Nerd.
Also, poor Sega. They had some many great ideas, but were just a few years too early to make them practical. Also, did you play Seaman? I'm not sure it would hold up as well today, but back then it was strange and exciting, and felt like the future. It was also fucking hard. And that's about as good as I can be for setting up a "that's what she said" this early in the morning.

Check out boomblox. Game is simple to learn and is awesome to play alone, or with a bunch of people.

I'm not some sort of elitist video game nerd or anything, I haven't actually owned a video game console since Sega Dreamcast.
Thanks for the recommendations guys! I'm looking forward to staggering around Toys 'R' Us, blinded by flashing lights and disoriented by small children stampeding around me, making my way to the video game section to gawp overwhelmedly at all the options available to me.
