True. But there was a difference. Skatepunks in KC had to be just as wary of headbanger/motorheads as jocks. You'd be friends with a few of them, but if one of their friends wanted to beat you up, they'd turn pretty quickly. It was kind of "Angry Mob" but with backyards and suburban streets instead of rooftops and kitchens. For me, it was the late 80s. For them, it was the early 90s so grunge had hit and the lanscape had changed. But I always thought of punks as either defiant and cerebral or dumb and nihlistic. Headbangers (I guess today they're like juggalos) were always angry but accepting.

they won their freedom, but at the cost of having to plead guilty of the crimes they didn't commit so that they can't sue the state. "victory" is a complicated term.

not to mention they are entering the world after leaving it 18 years ago! im sure there will be organizations and their families for support but another reason to hate any kind of govt controlled prison system.

What do you want to happen to the guy who did it, presumably the one kid's step dad who knocked his own teeth out when he found out they were going to match a bite mark? And what about the cop who raped a woman at gunpoint in Inwood the other night?

The terms of their plea are that they maintain their innocence but admit the state could probably make another conviction. And, so far, the option to sue for wrongful imprisonment is not off-limits.

I was talking more along anyone who goes to prison for that long of time, whether they deserved it or not.

Also I volunteered at a medium state prison and worked with people who were there for life. even convicted of murder, I worked with these people . And I still back that despite the crime the prison systems are 100% fucked up in this country or any in the world. Its outdated and doesnt solve anything, not to mention psychologically destroys a person. Which apparently no one cares about!

There's absolutely no huge effort or care in creating institutions that are about rehabilitating convicts for their crimes. Have you even seen the food given at prisons? Yes do I think a rapist or killer deserves to serve time, sure. But do I think best solution is throwing them all in a contained building where they are at high risk to hurt others and themselves even more? Hell no.
